A New Year's Tale............

Well, that's another year over. Another xmas and another new year's eve. Have decided not to make any resolutions this time round - let's be realistic they would be the same as always: be thinner, be healthier, be nicer; and somehow I never manage to achieve them.
This year the festivities have been very quiet - just me and husband- so have had time reflect, relax and generally lounge about. I am often asked why I don't go out on new years eve - with the assumption that I am being bah humbug! So I have decided to share previous experiences which should go some way to illustrating why I now stay in!!

1988 - went to stay with a friend and her partner. They fell out and we ended up walking through the villages of lincolnshire in the snow trying to find where he'd gone. Didn't see in the new year - too busy trying to keep warm.

1989 - went out the night before on a blind date (as it happens this was to be my future husband!). While I was out I was burgled. New year's eve spent with no tv and no heat (had also had a fire the week before xmas so had no heating).

1990 - invited to spend the evening and stay over with husband's boss and his wife. Just sat down for a lovely meal and a couple of friends of the boss arrived unannounced with their sleeping bags! This caused much tension between boss and wife - very uncomfortable evening in the cross fire of bickering. (They split up not long after)

1991 - first year up north! Was invited to a party. Arrived at 9pm - the house was in darkness - waited in car for about half an hour - still no sign of anyone so went home. Apparently they'd decided to go to the pub until midnight!! Saw new year in on our own.

1992 - husband's relatives came to stay. Decided at last minute to try to go out for something to eat. Fat chance!!! Couldn't get in anywhere - even MacDonalds was closed. Ended up back at home eating bacon and eggs at 10pm.

1993 - Have no memory of this year at all - must have been bad!!!

1994 - Went out for Indian meal with friends. One friend decided that don't like indian but ate it anyway - then threw up in toilets. Another friend threw up in the car park. Managed to get home for midnight whereby one friend fell asleep, one friend in tears missing her boyfriend - hmmmm.

1995 - stayed in !!!! and every year since!!!!

Happy New Year everyone. I wonder what 2011 will bring? Oh, just in case you were wondering - the diaries have been put away now - no more sharing of experiences - a limited time only availability. I will just say - the welsh boy never wrote back - sob!!
